Is Pump.fun Safe? How to Avoid Rugs on Pump.fun Tokens
6 min read · Updated
Pump.fun made launching a Solana memecoin take seconds. That also means thousands of tokens launch every day, and the vast majority go to zero. The platform itself removes some classic rug tricks, but not the ones that matter most. Here is what to check.
What Pump.fun protects you from
Pump.fun tokens have a fixed supply with mint and freeze authority revoked, and liquidity sits in a bonding curve until the token graduates, after which the liquidity is burned. So the classic “pull the liquidity” and “mint more” rugs don’t apply.
What it doesn’t protect you from
- Bundled launches: the dev buys a big share across many wallets in the first block
- Snipers who bought at launch and dump on the first buyers
- Dev wallets selling everything once the price is up
- Coordinated “pump groups” that buy, shill and exit together
Check the holders and bundles
Open the bubble map. If several top wallets were funded by the same wallet, or the top 10 real wallets hold more than 30% of supply, the supply is concentrated in a few hands. CoinsWavez flags bundled supply automatically on Solana tokens.
Check the developer
Serial launchers create dozens of tokens and sell each one. Dev Tracking shows how many tokens a creator wallet launched before, how many graduated and their best market cap. A developer with 50 launches and none that lasted is a pattern, not a coincidence.
Size your risk
Even clean Pump.fun tokens are extremely risky. Only use money you can afford to lose, take profits on the way up, and never buy a token someone is pushing in your DMs.
